Making Black Walnut Tincture(green)

Today we finally received some much needed rain & before I tell you how to make Black Walnut Tincture, I have a funny story that happened to me & my almost 16 year old son Grant today.

My Child, How badly do you want those Black Walnuts?…Grant & I headed out to our artesian well to fill our jugs with water. We knew the potential for rain was high..we need it desperately. So very dry here. We are at our place of destination hearing thunder in the background. Having searched to find a black walnut tree with walnuts, we scored there at the well. To my disappointment they were not yet dropping to the ground & so high up in the tree we were not able to reach them. Humpf..another day when they have fallen I can come gather them…well, its our turn to fill our jugs & its sprinkling..the tree above is keeping much of the rain off of us, but the umbrella works even better…waiting for each jug to fill it starts to really come down, lots more lightening, half the jugs are full now & the wind kicks up like a tornado is coming, rain is so forceful we see a flash flood beginning, trying to get out of the way of falling branches, we head to the car, being blown back by heavy wind…mind you we are still mostly dry due to the now broken umbrella. I thought for a moment as we are nearing the car that we would have to hit the ground for safety..Grant unlocks the car with the remote..what would we do without remotes!..the umbrella is completely broke & useless so I drop the thing, we have to climb thru the fence to get into the car. Ahh the “safety” of the car. My immediate thought is ~should we stay in here?…we were soaked thru just getting from the short spot at the fence, a mere 4ft. to the car where the umbrella gave out! Fifteen minutes later the storm leaves but some rain is still falling. It won’t matter if we get out now since we are already so wet. We head back to the well where our jugs still sit, blown over, & to our joy & giggling, God dropped those walnuts out of that tree..I got 20 of them! We were laughing & amazed at God’s humor…we were not totally scared during all this, but amused that this is how God got me the needed walnuts..! hah! still chuckling at it all.

Black Walnut Hull Tincture is actually made using green walnuts from the Black walnut tree. Which if you have some get them quick. You will not be able to make the tincture once they turn brown. Oh, they stain whatever they touch. Do not use your white shirt to gather them in..have a bag handy for this retrieval.

I have had lots of little bits of wisdom God has put into my head about these nuts. First, the meat in the nut are silly stupid hard to remove from their hulls. People put them in their drive ways & run them over to crack the outer shell, only to have to pick all that up & then find a way to break open the next layer to get to the nut in hopes of not totally destroying the edible part in the process. I don’t even try anymore. As I was contemplating all this just a week ago it dawned on me that the only true use of this nut is its healing properties of the green hull. The bark & leaves have wonderful uses as well, but today I will only explain about the green hull.

The Green hulls are gathered at the right time when they are falling off the trees in late summer. God made it that way to keep many of us from killing ourselves prematurely trying to figure out how to safely climb the tall trees to obtain the nuts. They are ripe & usable when they have just fallen to the ground so gather them quick. Take a few or a lot(20) and wash them in cold water, gently. Drain the water. Place the green nuts into a ceramic or glass container. A quart sized jar, or a gallon sized jar or a ceramic lemonade container is what I have used this time. Put the nuts into the jar, add to the container a quarter the way with boiling water. Now, if you are using a glass jar, heat your jar previous & while still warm, pour slowly into the jar the boiling water. So you do not crack the glass. No matter the size of your container, fill it a quarter of the way with this boiling water.

Next, you will pour over the nuts with the boiling water, some vodka.
Completely covering the nuts. Using Everclear, which is grain alcohol at 190 proof is the best to use. I pay $17.00 for a quart. So, don’t get too eager to pick all your green walnuts if you do not have enough everclear to cover the nuts. Make sure to get enough if you are planning to share your tincture. Otherwise hoard it for yourself.  Cover with plastic wrap or the lid that belongs to your container.

After three days..yes, only three days later, strain off the tincture, bottle it in dark bottles if you have them, if not, pour into a glass jar & wrap a towel or an old sock around the jar & store in a dark cabinet or closet. Begin immediately to take tincture to rid your body of parasites. To get the directions, you will need to get the book from your library or order one for your self. I cannot advise you on such as each one will be different according to your condition. The Cure for All Disease or The Cure for All Cancers, by Hulda Regehr Clark, Ph.D, N.D.

strained, filled bottles

Why am I doing this tincture you ask? To kill parasites! You may think you do not have those creepy things in you, but if you are alive & breathing, you have parasites. If you have pets, you have parasites. If you, like me, eat meat, you have parasites. It’s just part of the life on this earth. Parasites cause disease, illnesses as simple as a cold or the flu! To cancer & arthritis! Surprised? don’t believe it? All medical doctors were taught to know the parasites in their training to see just what these critters are capable of doing to the human or animal body. Yet, they prescribe drugs to kill just one or two parasites as in the case of cancer, allowing the myriad others survival.

Hulda Clark, scientist & N.D. (doctor of Naturopath)who studied parasites & their harm until her death in 2009 of complications to her spine from a car accident. Dr. Clark had a heart for healing the ills of our bodies. She was not selling anything, and offers to all her recipes for the healing herbs for parasites & how to make the zapper she recommends for killing other parasites. There are at least 100 parasites she studied & not one can survive Black Walnut tincture. Search her books which I recommend to you because there is a lot in there for you to learn that I cannot possibly fit here. I can tell you in her research she found three herbs were all that were needed to kill these harmful parasites & keep them from taking over our bodies. Black Walnut tincture, Wormwood Tincture/capsules & Clove capsules. She eventually believed that if only the Black Walnut were all you took, you could rid your body of disease & illness.

I know it sounds simplistic. But shouldn’t it be? Get started on the tincture, start taking it & see if you don’t begin to feel amazing! It can take a week, or a month..but you will start noticing a big difference in how you feel. Go and be well friends.

Discard the nuts. Or, put into a bucket add a lot of water to cover the nuts & leave to rot for a year to get black walnut stain! Ours will be ready in the early summer next year which we plan to stain our front room wood floors with.

  1. I did not have any EverClear on hand–just 80 proof Vodka (the cheapest I could get at the liquor store and what my family has been using to make elderberry tincture and also vanilla). I hope that’s OK, b/c I now have a gallon plus a quart of walnuts “perking” the way you described above. I think I could only fit about 12-13 walnuts in my glass gallon jar and only 3 in the quart jar. I hope that was enough, but the nuts were huge so that’s all I could cram in.

    • Nancy,
Ever Clear is a 190 proof grain alcohol & is ideal for extracting any & all properties from herbs or whatever you are needing to tincture. It is powerful stuff. However, it is more expensive as compared to regular vodka.
I sometimes do not have the money to spend on the Ever Clear & settle for the lower proof. Any vodka is fine.

The reason I mention the Ever Clear is because when it comes to ridding the body of parasites due to a disease like cancer, you will want a serious kill. Ever Clear would be that remedy. For just maintenance the lower proof works too. Most of my tinctures are the lower proof as well.

To make the Black Walnut Hull Tincture does not matter how many walnuts, just that you have them with the green hulls. However many fit in your container is what is needed. I had some very large nuts this year as compared to last year so not as many in my container as well.

I am so proud of you all for taking the steps to make your own tincture for your health. Kill those parasites.

      • I am sorry to report on the Everclear product. They use GMO corn as some of their source for this grain alcohol. I will not recommend this product again. If you have done as I have & are using it with this tincture, I will not throw out my tincture. But, will not use this product again. Here is the email response to the question about GMO
Thank you for your email regarding everclear the mixture is GMO and non-GMO corn.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
        Best regards,

      • If it is 190 proof the GMO chemical if any in the product is so small it is not relevant. The batches should be smaller and protected from oxygen where possible. As the green turns to black the effectiveness of the tincture is cut in half or more.

  2. This is so interesting! Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I have many visitors, but most don’t take the time to leave a comment. I am most appreciative of those that do. I hope that you enjoy my nature photos. I dearly love natural beauty.

I hope that you have a wonderful day!

  3. Hi Judith,
I want to kill parasites but not the good bacteria that I get from kombucha, raw milk and yogurt/kefir. Will the tincture kill those? and why not?

    • Tricia, good question you pose here. The Black Walnut Tincture will not interfere with the good gut bacteria. What it will do is kill the parasite eggs allowing the kombucha(which I do make myself) the yogurt/kefir (I make my own) to do its job. When the parasites are gone, it will be easier for your good gut bacteria to keep you healthier.

  4. In regards to the GMO (genetically modified ) alcohol for tincture making here are a couple options that do not have GMO’s There is an organic vodka called Rain, kind of expensive and Korbel Brandy uses no GMO’s. Polish potato vodka, their websie is under construction~info is pending~

  5. Can you take off the green hulls from the walnut and that way fit more hulls into a jar? Is it best to use the hulls when they are newly fallen, very green, or ripened to a yellow green?

    • it is not recommended to remove the hulls, it is hard to do first off & time consuming. You will have a mess on your skin as well since the hulls stain anything they touch for any length of time. I use about twenty that fit into my crock & that is plenty. A few less is equally effective. As green as possible is key. That yellow color is okay, but green is definitely preferable. It tells of the freshness of the nut. Which is what you are after. Let me know how it goes.

By the way. I have had a bag full (about 40) of nuts sitting in my freezer since last fall when the nuts fell from the tree & they are still green & usable. So they can be frozen long term.

      • Interesting you should mention teeth…I just learned by reading that if you have a tooth ache or cavity you can heal it with the black walnut tincture…I love learning more & all I can. I agree it is a great cure for parasites. Hulda Clark believes that tooth issues are also parasite related. I have yet to have any experience with tooth pain thus I cannot say one way or the other if it does work. However, I will be the first to do it & tell you how it comes out if ever I need it!…I will tell other’s to try it..can’t “hurt”! Have any of you experienced this amazing healing with a tooth? Would love to hear from you about your experience. I looked at the site & so glad to find this..I read this very information in the book they sell! We have used their art program for years with our home school. All five children used it, it is a wonderful art program to boot. Called ‘Art With a Purpose’, Share a Care Publications. Thank you for this information.

  6. I have used it for toothache, and it did stop the pain. It did not heal the cavity as I had hoped, but I don’t think we gave it enough time to work in between dentist appointments. I have faith that it would work, just as Rachel Weaver explains in Be Your Own “Doctor.”

  7. I have bought black walnut powder and am wondering what ratio I am to use to make up a tincture. Any ideas?
Thinking I can just use the powder to brush my teeth with it externally too.

    • Linda, I have never used the powder to make the tincture & wondering if it does not have the properties that the fresh green nuts have.
However, the rule with a powder for making tincture is going to be much less than a whole, fresh herb, nut, seed etc.

Take a quart jar, put enough powder to make about 1 inch of the jar full. Add a cup of boiled water to the powder, then add vodka to fill the jar. Seal & wait six weeks, shaking or stir daily. Keep in a dark cabinet. Or if you do not have such, take a dark sock & slip the jar into the sock~ Strain thru a t-shirt or coffee filter & label~

      • one more comment on the powdered herb. Black walnut stains…I would be cautious in putting it on the teeth directly just in case it would cause you to have black teeth!

  8. We purchased black walnut capsules at our local health food store. I bet you could make your own capsules with the powder. You would just need to buy the gelatin capsules and fill them yourself. According to the bottle, the does is one capsule daily.

I read that black walnut tincture is not recommended for children under 12. Do you know if this is true?

    Thanks,
    Faith

    • regarding the powder from a health food store…it is not fresh. Fresh is key here if you are dealing with cancer or some other serious illness. So search fresh black walnuts, or use the store tincture.

Yes, encapsulating for your self is so much cheaper if you are able to obtain the herb in bulk. I do this all the time. Not that I am cheap, but logic says if I can make the encapsulated herb myself or the tincture, cost wise I am frugal.

Children under 12, let’s see? do children have parasites? yes! Do children get cancer? yes! Do children like medicine? NO! I would not hesitate to give my children of any age the tincture. If their health demanded it, I would go to the moon & back for their health. That said, you do what you know is best for your family. No one else can replace your wisdom nor child!

    • Well, if my pig is pregnant, I must de-worm her before the piglets are born. I de-wormed my cow with black walnut while she was pregnant. If there are worms causing you harm, the baby has them too. I cannot give you any advice of what to do during pregnancy, but if its safe for the pigs & cows, why not? do your homework before proceeding.

Breastfeeding definitely safe. You must use your own judgement here. My daughter did so while she was nursing. It benefits the baby too.
The only caution I have is, if you are on the cancer protocol, using the wormwood too, never use during pregnancy~wormwood is a very strong & effective bitter herb.

I highly recommend the book by Matthew Wood ~ The Earthwise Herbal, A Complete Guide to New World Medicinal Plants. Search Black Walnut for its many healing benefits.

      • I know you posted this reply to breastfeeding a few years back but it’s so difficult to find a clear answer about using Black Walnut while breastfeeding. I have a 18 month old who nurses small amounts once or twice a day. I started taking Black Walnut to eradicated candasis. In your opinion, do you see it as safe? It’s difficult to trust the websites that are backed by drug companies because they always say not to use herbal remedies while pregnant/breastfeeding. I just feel like it would be safer than taking a prescription medicine from a pharmaceutical company. Am I wrong in thinking that?
        Thank you for your time!

  9. Hi there!
I want to use Black walnut for a parasite cleanse on my 2 year old and 3 year old. I also want to do a cleanse on myself who is currently breastfeeding an almost 6month old. Can you recommend a dosage? I will be purchasing a tincture.

secondly i want to use the tincture to regrow my tooth enamel, after having 3 kids close together i need it. Any suggestions on the max dosage i can be swishing in my mouth without causing side effects for the baby?

  10. Thanks so much for this. I’m a writer out of Wandera, Australia and what I just read here on wordpress.com could not be written much better. Reading through this post reminds me of my previous roommate, Bell. He constantly kept preaching about this. I will definitely send this information to him. I’m certain he will have a very good read.
I am thankful to you you for revealing this.
. It’s reminded me why I loved this blog so much.
    |Thank you, I will try and check back more frequently. . How often do you update your blog nowadays?

  11. I gather walnut from trees in vacant lots and parks and want to know if I can gather the green walnuts from the tree before they fall to the ground.

  12. I was told to let the walnuts dry and turn black +then tincture the dried shell. Does it make a difference? Also said I could dry the shells after puncturing and powder them. Your way seems so much easier.

    • if you wait till the walnut turns black, you are then getting mostly iodine, which is good, and I do have a tincture for that option, but when you want a parasite killing tincture, use the green hulls.

  13. Hey! Great information here thanks!

    Have a question.

Can I cut into the green hulls and sort of peel them so that more fit into a jar? I know my fingers will be stained but I don’t mind that. Just curious if this will disturb the process?
